If an organization is designated as receiving donations through an intermediary, it could mean several things.  Many NGOs working internationally use a US intermediary to facilitate donations from US citizens. An international NGO may alternatively have a special “friends of” organization in the US, dedicated to supporting their international organization. Additionally, many US-based organizations operate internationally, so you may see some US-based organizations appear in the search, listed as using an intermediary.  In each case, SVCF has vetted the intermediary or US-based organization as a 501(c)(3) public charity, eligible to receive tax-deductible donations from individuals and from the community foundation.  Intermediaries retain discretion and control over donations and may use donations suggested for a secondary organization for other similar purposes.
