Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications
Melissa Daar Carvajal leads strategic marketing and communications for the community foundation. She develops and implements the vision for all marketing and communications activities to support SVCF’s goals and strategic objectives. She also plays a critical role in branding and marketing the community foundation to its key audiences.
Previously, as the founder of MDC Network, Melissa focused on branding and storytelling to move audiences forward on issues of social impact. With MDC’s network of filmmakers, writers, strategists and designers, Melissa assisted such outstanding organizations as The Early Learning Lab, Center for Youth Wellness, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Thrive Foundation for Youth and the Rogers Family Foundation. Earlier in her career, Melissa held senior positions at the Stuart Foundation, Fenton Communications and Full Court Press.
Melissa is an active public schools advocate and a parent at Mission High School in San Francisco, where her sons attend school, and her husband teaches music. She also is a senior advisor to PlazaCuba, an international cultural exchange company she founded. Melissa has a bachelor’s degree from Clark University, where she majored in sociology.
