A Quick Guide to Charitable Planning for Your Clients
As a tax lawyer I believe in the wisdom of clients’ arranging their affairs for tax efficiency, but charitable giving is about much more than tax savings. In fact, I would posit that the primary motivation for most charitable giving, whether during a person’s lifetime or after, is not the tax savings that will result, but the desire to make a difference in the world and to contribute some wealth, either earned or inherited, for the social good.


Donating Pre-IPO Shares
Many professional advisors have clients who are employees of emerging companies who hold shares of their companies’ common stock. These shares are typically not publicly traded because the company has not yet conducted an initial public offering, or IPO, of its shares. The purpose of this article is to summarize some of the steps which must be taken in connection with such gifts.
