KHANH BUI
DONOR ENGAGEMENT OFFICER
As a donor engagement officer, Khanh works closely with donors to meet their
philanthropic missions, providing research, strategic and tactical planning, implementation and evaluation services.
Prior to joining Silicon Valley Community Foundation, he served as staff director
for city of San José Council Member Sam Liccardo who represents downtown San José. He managed
and evaluated strategic community initiatives related to public transportation, public-private partnerships,
community collaborations and Vietnamese relations. He also served as the director of ministry leadership and
learning at St. Patrick Proto-Cathedral, a multicultural parish in downtown San José, where he
developed multicultural community leaders and coordinated multilingual social and human service programs.
Previously, he worked for Kaiser Permanente Community Benefits, North Hills Community Outreach as director
of technical assistance, The Forbes Funds of the Pittsburgh Community Foundation as director of faith and
community based initiatives, internalDrive Foundation as executive director, and the Children’s
Discovery Museum of San José as an education coordinator.
His civic volunteerism includes serving on the boards of Gardner Family Health Network,
Gardner Family Care Corporation, Digital Media Academy, Wireless Neighborhood and Bay Area Asian Pacific
American Legislative Staffers.
Khanh holds a Master of Science in public policy and management, concentrating in
information technology and human resource management, from Carnegie Mellon University Heinz School of Public
Policy and Management. He is a graduate of Santa Clara University where he has a Bachelor of Science in political
science and a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies. He was also a Coro Northern California public affairs fellow.
As a former competitive badminton player, he still enjoys spirited games with
friends and family, playing golf and spending time with his partner David.
